Being a Hambuchen means a lot to David Hambuchen, and carrying the family tradition
of quality customer service is not a matter he takes lightly. "It means that I have a
responsibilty to my customers which I must live up to," Hambuchen said. "They have
come to expect a lot from Hambuchen's as a result of the service my grandfather
and father provided them. It also means that as your name is on the sign. You do
your best to satisfy each customer."
A.J Hambuchen Sr. been the family business in 1931 in downtown Conway.
It sold tires and General Electric appliances and added furniture in the late 1960s.
A.J. Hambuchen Jr. moved the store to the current location at Conway's Harkrider
and Second streets in 1977 and a new 15,000 square-foot building was added in 1992,
which included a Laz-E-Boy gallery and a Thomasville Furniture gallery.
Hambuchen Jr. retired in 1997, leaving the family business in the care of his son,
David Hambuchen. It was during that year that Hambuchen's again expanded with a
10,000 square-foot addition which houses a Broyhill Showcase gallery, bringing
Hambuchen's showroom space up to 40,000 square-feet, making it Conways largest.
Hambuchen's carries furniture, appliances, lamps, pictures, accessories, decorating
and design services.
